I really want to learn how to draw better; I want to learn about shading and proportion, so I have been carrying my sketch pad, pencils and stretchy eraser around everywhere. The truth is that I have discovered that I LOVE to draw and even if I never improve I will keep on loving it and doing it. It's the same with writing. I may always be in Work-In-Progress mode but again, it's ok. After all, our very lives are nothing but works in progress, right?

The piece above is my latest drawing+inspiration from the characters in the fictional WIP+an old photograph of trees that I found in my stepfather's things+another photo taken over the winter of a bare tree branch+vintage image of a bird in flight=a piece that tells a snippet of a story, the part in the book where the main character leaves the mountains, the trees, her home. I won't say any more just now. I find I am a bit superstitious about sharing too much of the story and having it's energy drain away with my telling. I read a quote once where a writer gave that warning and it stuck with me. But I will say that combining the painting and the writing is making me silly spinning happy-just like when I picked up my first Somerset Studio magazine and discovered altered art. **deep contented sigh**

It looks lovely, Tricia! And I so agree that is perfectly okay to continue to draw and write just for the enjoyment of it. :)

I must say, the more character images you show, the more curious I am about your novel. There's a darkness about some of the work, but not a depressing, closed in type of darknes. More curious and open ~

Tricia, this drawing is amazing. I think you are such an accomplished artist, but we all are WIP aren't we? Constantly learning and evolving.

I've been making the rounds to visit blogs I have not been to in a while and was heart-broken to read about your struggles with breast cancer. I have heard from many, many friends who are going through the same thing as you. I've been wondering why this disease is so prevalent in so many all of the sudden? I will be sure to add you to my list of people to send positive thought and prayers to.

Your posts are always so thought provoking and beautifully written. I really enjoy reading them. And your photography is amazing too - especially the coloring of the photos of Olivia. So soft and slightly muted. How to you achieve such a beautiful effect?
Take care,
xo

i love the combination tricia! I love drawing too. The very act of it makes us slow down and just be. it's a very intimate act.

This portrait is lovely. Don't learn too much perfection. it's the imperfections that intrigue.

I discovered your blog through Gillian's (congratulations on the print). I haven't read enough past posts to know your struggle, but You can and will create art. You already have. You already do. And I bet you do daily, although you might not recognize it yourself. Feel better as soon as is appropriate.
