internet detox

Every once in a while Olivia and I will take an internet/computer break. Here we are, school starting in ten days, and it seems like the perfect time. We still have many fun things to cross off our summer list, not to mention the fact that the weather here has been wonderful for night walking and star gazing, much too gorgeous to spend in front of a screen of any kind. I've promised her many, many games of outdoor UNO and there are countless other things I feel we must do now, and I write "now" because it just seems like we are transitioning into a some kind of un-name-able, different phase, now because my little girl starts MIDDLE SCHOOL in less than two weeks (!), dance classes will be starting back. Life is going to get busy.

So, here's my plan for the next few days:

PLAY. Play in art room. Play in art journals. Play more with painting on old photographs. Have fun. No worries about having finished pieces. (although i do have some finished pieces to share just as soon as i manage to take a decent shot of them...)

Make more foam stamps using technique learned in LK Ludwig's class (wonderful, inspiring!) a few years ago.

Spend time lovin' on those I love. Taking LONG walks, holding hands. Star-gazing. Reading on blankets. Getting my hands in some nature! (This heat has kept me inside way too much.) Do some treasure-hunting. Letter-writing. Fiction-writing. Stitching. LOTS of stitching. Knitting (just learning).

But mostly and mainly, just doing this, long and deep:

See you soon...

Happy creating!!!!!!

Beautiful photographs!

Computer breaks are important (and I say this as a person who finds working and playing on the computer fun). I always get a fresh perspective when I take a break and focus on other things. Enjoy all of your fun activities. xoxo

thank you jeannine! i agree about the fresh perspective. we do the detox every few months and i always discover new things about self/art. and it still amazes me how i can get lost in the cyber-world for hours, staring in awe at all the shiny things here.
i also have to tell you how i will miss your august break picks! you have rocked that challenge!!!!

i went off for 4 days earlier this year and missed it not at all - i was pretty surprised. it was my first break, and we were away - no internet capability. what i found was we didn't watch tv either, or the radio much, except for a classical music station. it was fabulous and i plan on doing it again in snips and snaps. see you when you get back from the real world! xoxo

Hello there! Love the new look of the blog! I feel so much the same as you do....this summer was so....hot and exhausting and exasperating! So ready for autumn and cool days. They just make little adventures so much more fun! Sounds like you and your girl have some great plans!~

debi, i have enjoyed the detox so much that i'm having a hard time getting back into the groove of things here in internet-land. what brings me back each time is that this is my only contact with you and a handful of other dear, special souls and i wouldn't ever want to lose that. truly. wishing you a most lovely day. xoxo
