I love it when Olivia asks me to do her hair whether it's a bun or braids. Or a braided bun like a few days ago. Once when she was small I read that when you brush a child's hair it's the perfect opportunity to send blessings and positive energy to your little one. With each stroke of the brush in your mind you are thinking of all the wonderful things about the person you are tending, wishing them well on their day ahead. I loved the thought then and I love it even more now. There are times I forget, like when we have two minutes to get her hair up before a dance class or before a performance and the bun has to have the proper placement and maybe I've gotten it too low again and hear the word "re-do" for the third time. But most times I remember.
And thinking of hair-I have about an inch or two of hair now; and everyone was right, hair post-chemo is different. The texture is odd. Off. And it's grey. And very curly. Sometimes I catch myself wondering just who that stranger is I see in the mirror. It's rare that I wear my wigs these days. It's been cold so I've been relying on hats. Not sure what will happen come spring. Color will be in my future...maybe even something a little fun like a blue or red streak here and there. It feels a little silly to be stressing over hair when this time last year I was worrying about much heavier things and headed to California for treatment.

That was the art table yesterday morning. I just love the potential of a gessoed surface so much. Yesterday was one of those days where I just felt like covering everything in the art room in gesso and starting over. In a good way. The box isn't white anymore but still a work-in-progress and one I'll share when it's complete.

There are three new quotes taped up in my art room, both by my desk. Maybe they will inspire you as they have me.

"Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you." - Carl Sandburg

"I always tell my writing students that every good piece of writing begins with both a mystery and a love story. And that every single sentence must be a poem. And that economy is the key to all good writing. And that every character has to have a secret."---Silas House

"If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing."~Marc Chagall

Embrace the grey - add that blue or pink for fun. My hairdresser tells me grey is the new blonde.

The grayer it is the easier to go blonde. Style it like Pink's and presto, changeo...you're a rock star!

OH, there is so much truth in that I find that too often I let other people spend it for me.
