Today seemed to fly by though I spent most of it going from the couch to the bed and back to the couch again. Thankfully my sweet husband took care of all meals and clean up. I just love him for that. He also suggested that we all pile in the car and go for a drive so I could have a change of scenery and fresh air without a lot of physical effort. Another reason to love him.
We drove on rt. 11 for a while before veering off onto several side roads, one dirt road landed us on the edge of the Jefferson National Forest, a road not more than a path really. It was absolutely wonderful, the way the road wound up, up, up the mountain and the trees formed a shady canopy for us to drive through. Magical. We had the windows down, the air was crisp. We stopped the car once to stretch our legs. It was the sweetest spot with a trail off to the side, almost hidden. I would have LOVED to go for a spontaneous hike but I had to settle for the patch of nature within a few feet of the car. But in that radius we spotted a blue jay, a grand daddy long legs, a funny quick red bug, a red-capped mushroom and other cool fungi, a small frog and leaves already trading their green in for vibrant red.

Another thing magical about this day was the gorgeous fabric cuff that adorned my wrist, a gift from the talented Pilar . (and I see she has more in her Etsy shop.) I had it on the dining room table to photograph and as I walked out the door I thought to put it on. I'm so glad I did. Every time I looked down at soft fabrics and charms my heart swelled thinking about her kindness and friendship and how healing that connection is, thinking about how blessed I am with friends near and far.

So glad you felt like getting out. Rt. 11 holds many lovely treats. I used to often see a crane that lived in the creek that ran beside the highway. God sends you beauty whenever you need it. Take care. Susan

Aren't the connections that develop from this blog world such a wonder and a gift? I am feeling sorry that you need so much rest, though of course you do. But, I am so glad that you and your sweet family know just how to enjoy life - even when times are tough. I'm thinking of you, dear Tricia. And praying for you.
