Illustration Friday----MISSING

This is my first entry for Illustration Friday but I was very inspired by the word/theme this week and thought I would give it a go.

Last night my husband brought home a mix CD a friend had given to him. It turns out it was the mostly the new Brandi Carlile CD I had been hearing others talk about. After listening to the CD and loving every single song I wonder how could I have gone for so long without being exposed to her amazing sound? Goodness, she has stolen my heart away and inspired me. All in one day. What more can a girl ask for!
(update: I am thinking about the comment "anonymous" left and want to mention that I do plan to actually buy her new CD. )

This piece was inspired by song number 7. Josephine. These lines grabbed me the moment I heard them---"I am missing someone but I don't know who, Now I'm standing alone and I'm trying to remember..."

I used acrylics on hotpress watercolor paper. On my art table was another inspiration. A tin type of a young girl.

So now you are actually BUYING the cd??

Sorry, that sounded rather unfriendly. I sometimes copy music myself, but actually i am a bit ashamed of it. I wouldn't like it if somebody copied (stole) my stuff. But it's sometimes is hard to be a honest person when it is so easy to steal.I mean, I wouln't think of taking a cd from a shop, but with when you make a copy nobody sees you...

Tricia, this is just lovely... your style is so sweet and sentimental - evokes many feelings whenever I see a new piece. Hope things are well with you... xoxDeb

Her face is very intense and her eyes keep me locked in. I adore this painting.

nice job of capturing the spirit of the song...she looks lost and far away in thought.

Gosh, it seems rather presumptuous or possibly judgmental on the post regarding the CD....If a friend bought tunes from i-tunes, burned the CD and gave it as a gift, are thy not supporting the artist???

Back to the point and spirit of your original post...the art you shared here with us is sincerely beautiful.

You amaze me with every post! Sometimes I feel I pale next to you! Beautiful work!
You have been an art machine lately!

And...
I would think this artist would be flattered. Tricia may have heard her song on a gifted CD, but she may not have heard it otherwise... and she would not have been inspired to create this beautiful piece of art.
I am going to go and download the song into my itunes library...

and... I would encourage anyone else who reads this post to do the same...

friends,
Brandie

I love the picture, it is so beautiful. I am sorry someone feels the need to scold you, maybe they should take the plank out of their own eye first. Nita

This is very touching! I love the palette you chose with the earth tones and touches of deep red in the poppies and the purse. The girl's face is sad and focused on something that doesn't seem to be there... perhaps it's only in her mind? The lyrics really gave wonderful form to the image. Well done, Tricia!

You have such a wonderful talent. What a beautiful painting! The colors are just so rich and vibrant.

I love the way that you added the journaling to the skirt. It really pops against that green background and the white helps to strengthen the framing around the door. Lovely!

Tricia this is another winner! I really love how much thought you put into all your artwork. I've never heard of Brandi Carlile - I feel so out of the loop - will have to check her out.

Gorgeous piece, I love it. Isn't is funny how whenever people leave horrid comments they never have the nerve to do it under their own name....

This is really beautiful and I love how you were inspired by both the prompt and the song. There is an element of action in this piece. I am not sure if it is the gaze on her face, the motion in her eyes or the perspective. I will have to check out Brandi Carlsie. I have heard so many positive things about her tunes, but am unfamilar with her work.

Tricia, this is wonderful and a great interpretation. I have toyed with the idea of doing Illustration Friday stuff too, if I could just find the time.
