Confidence

Oh, today I wish for myself the confidence that my daughter has. She has her own style, a ballerina skirt is an accessory to every outfit. Add to that a brightly colored headband and she is happy, carrying herself so straight and proud, not caring whether the colors or patterns match at all. She has developed this sassy walk. I love seeing this. My heart soars every time. We should all feel that we are beautiful. We should all strut our stuff. Today I will hold my head a little higher, maybe even wear that bright pink skirt tucked into the back of my closet. Just maybe...

Hi, Tricia! I'm not sure how I found you, but here I am enjoying your writing and art, and marveling at the so many "ahas" I've murmured to myself. (Brace yourself..this may be long winded.) The sink...I have one just like it, or at least very similar to the one on your post. I love my sink! I'm a huge fan of Mary Oliver, I read Naomi Shibab Nye, Derek Walcott's poem moved me to tears, and I am going to try to write a "Where I'm From" piece.
I've so enjoyed this visit and it's unusual to experience the range of emotions I've experienced by reading just one blog.
Thanks so much,
Ellen

Isn't that the truth...I have had the same thought many times over the years regarding my daughter's confidence. It is true that she has far fewer fears than I do and must not have as many "voices" inside her head telling her how things "should" be. I marvel at that and am grateful at the same time. I guess it means you (and hopefully I) have done something right in the raising of our off-spring.

Love this, I think the same about my little girls! How free they are, they help me to feel more free too. I love that. This is a great shot, it speaks volumes, I love how she is on her toes, peering to see herself.

I hope I can look at my boys and think the same thing in years to come... that's one of my biggest hopes for my kids- that they can have the self-confidence that I lacked when I was young, and even lack sometimes now!

Wow! What a super great photo!
I am glad your daughter is a trendsetter and not a peer pressure clone; a true sign of your excellent Mothering!
I really like your sink and I am envious of your large bathroom.

As a woman and mother this post touches my heart and just makes me smile for you and for her. Clearly this little bird was born with a certain amount of confidence, but I also would venture she has grown within it from her environment there with you. Precious. Very precious.

I love that! I have two girls ages 9 and 11. People may stare when we are out in public, but I think plaid, stripes and florals look just great together! Beautiful post.

Tricia,
I completely relate to this post!! I am not a very confident person, and never really have been. When my girls were born I swore to myself that I would raise them to feel extremely confident and comfortable with who they are. So far, so good. :0)
I wish that all women felt more confident in themselves, I think many of us do not...

That is sooo wonderful!! I remember when I had that sort of confidence. I wish it has lasted for me. She is too cute with the ballet skirt! I hope she never loses that confidence!!
