Inspire Me Thursday---Connection

Well, this art piece (which is also doing double duty as my art card for the 10 of diamonds-theme wings) started out as a piece about the close relationship of twins. I had finished the piece when I somehow during the splattering of the white wash got a big splat on the hair of the girl on the right. When I went to wipe it off I lost an entire portion of her cheek. Ahhh, the frustation! But I have been in a great mood today so I say to myself ---how can this be saved? I take the red and black oil pastels and rub a little here and a lot there until I like it a bit more. I thought at this point of the little girl as dead perhaps and desparately missed. I already had the words "cling to my sister" so I grabbed an old book and saw immediately the words "dead from the smallpox" so I pasted that on and then to that added, "Alas I will." So the piece then read, "Alas I will cling to my sister, dead of the smallpox." Silly huh? :) After laughs from my husband and a friend---you know who you are! - I decided to lose the extra wording and keep it simple.
The more I look at this propped on the top of the monitor the more I am amazed at what comes out from deep within us when we create, even if we don't realize it at the time. My mind flows to thoughts of my sister with whom I try so hard to have a relationship with but never succeed in winning over. We are so very different and lately her life and her choices have taken her to even more distant places. I do miss her and will always be open to forming a connection with her.
I take a deep breath and wish her peace.

This is a great piece...and for me it evokes the connection with my sister self...the side of me that needs to be nourished by me!! Thank you for sharing...It is an inspiration!

This piece is gorgeous Tricia! I would love to have a sister like you--my sister and I are so different and disconnected as well. How about we have a sister swap?--sounds like our sisters would get along very well--lol! I'm sorry--I don't mean to make light of the situation.

I love your new profile pic--now I see where Olivia gets her beautiful features!

What a beautiful piece of artwork, so evocative of the kinship we all seek.

I am fascinated with twin and connection especially spiritual twin sisters:) this magic of understanding and being so close in the soul:)

sisters, I miss mine too but we can chat or email each other, I can't meet her often either because she lives away, not that far but it s still not that easy...but then when family gatherings happen we enjoy and savour it so much more ;)

blessed be, have a nice and creative weekend***

This is really lovely. I must admit that your wonderful artwork makes me a little sad because I don't have any brothers or sisters and only a brother-in-law. I suppose our friends are the sisters we choose.

Hi! I was working on a project when the same type of thing happened. I think it was the final layer of glaze, and a heavy hand on the brush that swept away part of the photo. Fortunately it was a collage piece, so I reprinted the photo I used and layered another copy on top. I'm glad the art came out so beautifully despite the setback!

Hi Tricia, first of all, thank you so much for the words of encouragement on my blog yesterday-I really needed them. Second of all, the story behind this piece is really a true testament to the power of artwork. When I was in graduate school for art therapy, my professor always used to say, "nothing in art is an accident", and I firmly believe that's true. Your piece is a perfect example!

Sometimes that "oops" is for the best... I like what you've done.

This piece is rich in layers and colors. I love the fact second image acts as sort of a shadow. I always find it so interesting to see what our subconscious directs us to create.
