Some New Things

With the weather being so nice I have been drawn to the outdoors. Having never before had much of an interest in gardening, I am surprised at the urge this year to plant and tend. I can't seem to get enough of being outdoors. I have a little basket of tools and my gardening gloves and for the past few days these have been a substitute for my usual glues and papers and paints. Olivia has shared my enthusiasm and we have been having the best time.

Several evenings I did get started on art projects only to be frustrated and preoccupied. One night I even stayed up til 1 in the morning making "mistake" after "mistake", covering up and painting over, removing and changing. This morning I finally felt artsy in a not forced sort of way again and completed two pages in my round robin circle book that will go into the post on Monday.

The bottom piece has a pocket with a tag that comes out with directions for the book. It was a lot of fun giving this elegant little girl a pet birdie and butterfly. She is such a serious girl I thought she needed some friends and a bit of lighthardedness.

A view of the mess on my table. I love all the scraps left after a piece is completed. I save practically each and every tiny thing. Do you? Next on my list are a bunch of tags made from the scraps. I found a whole stash of manila folders just waiting to be cut into tags, maybe even dyed. I have read about dyeing with those cheap easter egg kits. Sounds like a good evening project with Olivia. As for this afternoon, while Olivia is at dance rehearsal I am off to meet my friend Marnie at an fine art show downtown. Doesn't that sound like fun! I will try and take plenty of pics.

I leave you with a quote I found on the Inspire Me Thursday site. It really struck a chord with me.

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."
Henry David Thoreau

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

p.s. The detox is still going strong. I may let tomorrow be the last day though. I had forgotten about Memorial Day and the family cookout we are going to. I am undecided still as to what to do. I have tremendous relief from the joint pain though. I am really amazed.

I just love looking at your artwork. You are so talented! Isn't it stange how serious and somber the people in the vintage photos are? Nowadays we always say SMILE when we snap a photo of someone. I enjoyed seeing the photo of your worktable. Looks just like mine! And yes, I also save practically every scrap from my projects. Have a great holiday!

Lovely art, Tricia. Re: gardening - if I really hate weeding, as I say I do, then why do I catch myself smiling as I work???

Your journal pages are both charming...And I think I also now have more "scraps" than I do full pieces of paper! I give you so much credit for sticking with the detox for this long - seems it has been worth the struggle. xox Deb

I like the new artwork and your painting very much. I think the paintings look nice without frames, but a simple frame would look nice as well.
Gardening keeps me grounded when other things take me out of myself. I really need to find more time for it somehow.
This quote is a timely reminder for me to be patient with myself as I keep trying to walk "my" path.
Take care Tricia.

So glad the detox is going well. I really love these pages. The "natural" quality to them is stunning. Always so inspired by your work. Thank you!
