I'd Love To Be a Fairie's Child

I'd Love to be a Fairy's Child
By Robert Graves
Children born of fairy stock
Never need for shirt or frock,
Never want for food or fire,
Always get their heart's desire:
Jingle pockets full of gold,
Marry when they're seven years old.
Every fairy child may keep
Two strong ponies and ten sheep;
All have houses, each his own,
Built of brick or granite stone;
They live on cherries, they run wild--
I'd love to be a Fairy's child.
We were blessed yesterday. Time with special friends and an afternoon of gorgeous weather. The kids spent most of their time building a fairy house and orphanage. I was reminded of the book, Fairy Island by Laura and Cameron Martin.
Olivia has been interested in/obsessed with fairies for a few years now. Queen Thistledown is her "guardian fairy", the one who leaves these really cool notes and tiny surprises. As it turns out some of our friends believe in fairies too so it was great for Olivia to have others to talk to about this. She left the park saying, "This is the best day I have ever had!"
After our visit with friends we headed to my dad's to see their new house. It was an hour and a half away from the park. We had the Ipod with us so we listened to Learning French--Lessons for Children. So fun! Oui!
As we headed toward dad's we started going into even prettier, more remote country. We were on dirt roads for a good while, winding deeper and deeper into the mountains. It reminded me of where I had lived as a young girl. Just mountians and fields and mysterious woods. I loved being here---even just driving in the car. (I have turned into quite a city girl or so I am told.) At one point I was just sure I had us lost. At this point I stopped the car to think and look at my directions----I didn't have to even pull over-there was no where to pull over--we were already driving on what was like a path so we just stopped in the road---we didn't meet another car the whole time. I decided to go on and eventually found the house. At one point I also stopped to try and get a picture of one of the many crows in the trees. They were everywhere but they flew away when I slowed the car. Ahhh! Kelly's digital camera-we will blame all the failed shots on the poor zoom and not my slowness! I am saving my money for a new camera. It was decided right then and there.
Dad and his wife, Virginia enjoyed showing us around their home. It was really nice but I did have some trouble concentrating on that because they also have something else new. A puppy! And isn't he the sweetest! I was in love!

We didn't make it home until 7 pm. We ate and then after baths and all that it was time for bed. No art was made again today. I am trying not to freak out about this although I am a bit close to that already this morning. And I can admit that here, right? I feel like I am going to expload if I don't paint something, complete something. Today is the same crazy running. I try to do so much with Olivia maybe because of the whole being an only child here at home (hannah is with her mom in virginia beach) and I want her to have that socialization. Plus she has so many dear friends. How to leave anyone out? I try to combine as much as I can. Today. Olivia has a playdate with a little girl we haven't seen for a while at 9:30, then lunch here at home I think, then homeschool skate at 1, then a friend over--we are taking her to Scouts with us, then Girl Scouts. Drop the little girl off. Home at 8:30. I am trying to figure out a plan. I think I will load up on caffeine this evening and pull a late-nighter. I have so many ideas in my head for pieces I want to do. Are you ever afraid if you don't hurry up and make the ideas concrete that they will lose their energy or you will forget?

Hi Tricia,
What a beautiful time at your Dad's--those fairy houses are so magical! So wonderful that Olivia believes!

Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog--you can prime the suitcase with BIN before you paint it. Have fun!

oh I believe in faeries too! when I was a little girl, I would dance with them!
I built houses for them and gave them little presents.. it is so sad that we grow up and no longer believe - oh I could go on and on.... but I still here them even now at age 49 :) - i hear them giggling under my pine tree
