Yesterday was a busy one for me. Olivia and I spent the night before at my mother's helping her get settled in her new place. After a bit of unpacking we went to visit my grandmother who is not well. Seeing her stretched out on her couch, a blanket over thin body, bottle after bottle of medicine in a basket within hands reach really shook me. Always she is in the same spot, also on the couch but sitting up, either watching the birdies at the 5 feeders just outside the window or her hands are busy embroidering a pillowcase or a kitchen towel. Her hands kept pulling and working at her covers like she din't know what to do with herself. It was heartbreaking. And I guess it hit me again how simply fragile and precious life is and how we must treasure each day.
Last night splurged and took Olivia to the ballet. "Cinderella." Here is a picture I snapped before we left. She is practicing a dance she made up and I think she is just such a doll doing this! Ballet means so much to her. She has this passion that surprises me, maybe because I don't remember at that age what I was passionate about...

One more thing to share: While at my mom's that evening I felt so lost without my paints and inks and papers. Livi was busy playing with her cousin and mom was sitting with me at the kitchen counter. Mom was busy herself with paperwork stuff and there is no TV there yet and no computer so I doodled. I thought I would share my doodles as several of them have little birdies. I am starting to like drawing. Maybe as something I would like to pursue further...For now the simple doodling has me overjoyed! Who cares if it turns out cool. It is all for fun! Actually I guess all art should be that way, shouldn't it?
