*for about a week now i've been visiting this site at the beginning of my block of writing time: one word. you are given one word and sixty seconds to write something. anything. no pressure. it doesn't even have to make sense. just write. who cares about punctuation. a great way to get the creative energy moving. yesterday's word was "drops". "when i look at him he drops his eyes. i think i know why. could it be he's afraid i might see the lie that lives there cowered in the bottom corner, just beneath the pupil? there. there, do you see it? that..."

*on january 1st i made a pact not to buy another book until i read (or gave away) every single book on every single shelf in the house. what was i thinking? maybe not the most realistic goal but it has been eye-opening for me. (more on that later) i was coasting along and doing quite well until a barnes and noble trip with my daughter and step-daughter. The Awe-manac: A Daily Dose of Wonder by Jill Badonsky stole my heart within seconds and when looking for a link just now i found that Jill has a blog! love. love. love.
*Still great poems and short fiction. non-fiction too.
*some eye candy tomek setowski and eloise corrdanch and pae white. pae's work was recently at our local art museum and i fell in love with it there. one of these days i'm going to get some scissors and stacks of colored paper and spend an entire day cutting shapes. better yet- i'll invite friends and we can cut paper together. the thought of friends surrounded by pretty colored paper strung through the trees makes me smile. in this vision we are all on blankets in the front yard and it's warm, not windy and cold like it is today. sigh.
