The wearing away on the surface of these coin-sized shell fragments makes me think of constellation maps or perhaps some ancient writing waiting to be deciphered. I collected several altoid tins full for this reason and because I just like the way they feel in my hand.

We are home from the beach and settled back into our daily routines. This time we stayed in Rodanthe, not in our usual Buxton, and not very far down the beach from the house in the movie, "Nights in Rodanthe."



We walked on the beach and pier, built sandcastles, ate lots of shrimp and did all the usual beach stuff. On one walk we spotted this sand castle, made even more beautiful by its impermanence.



Another highlight was that I got to spend time with Tiffany, a dear friend (and wonderful author!) who lives in the Outer Banks. It'd been way too long since I'd seen her, since before Mexico. She's such a sweet sweet soul and I enjoyed every minute in her company. We had a great lunch in a cute cafe and then drove down the island, stopping near the lighthouse, at another little place where we had yummy ice cream, serenaded by a talking bird. The hours passed like minutes.

I had planned to write more but because of yesterday's chemo I'm crazy exhausted and the couch and TV are just about all I can think of right now. It's Movie Night and Olivia's choice. It's between "Tuck Everlasting" and "Freaky Friday."
