Inspire Me Thursday (Watercolor)

Watercolor paints, charcoal, white paint pen, letters cut from book page and a tiny bit of playing in Photoshop. The "handwriting" in the background was done in Photoshop.

"CECILY--Becoming"

There was a time when Cecily felt like a captive in her role as a mother, a homemaker. This was not an everyday sort of feeling but one that at the oddest times would catch deep in her chest and leave her aching for days.

It was not that Cecily didn't cherish her life and all that went with it. She was thankful and she gave thanks each day. She knew her role was one of the greatest importance and she was actually very proud of the loving home environment she created though she rarely spoke of this. The fresh foods and the sweet kisses. The bedtime stories and traditions. The windows cleaned to let the light of the world shine perfect on their faces as they slumbered.

One day was different though from the rest. It was the day she realized that those ties that she felt binding her were more fragile than she ever knew. Why, she could break them easily if she chose. Instead she found herself clinging and wrapping them tighter. There was growth for her in this simple way of being. By living as she was she was growing more into her potential, not away from it. She was learning to be appreciative of the basic things, to find beauty in stillness, in the reflective eyes of her child. In the colors and wonderment of nature. She was becoming a witness to things that before would have escaped her own quick pace unnoticed. On that morning Cecily became so still she could actually feel her heart opening, feel the ties as growth, feel her love reaching out to those around her and for the first time she truly gave honor to herself and the role she chose.

Wonderful mixed media piece Tricia! I immediately loved how she was holding everything tight to herself, including the flower. Striking! Then I read your text... beautiful and powerful. Ah the ties that bind us but which we can't live without...

I am always amazed when I see your art and then read what goes with it. I find myself so absorbed in both that I don't want to leave. I go back to the visual and take it all in and then read a second time.

this is tender and thought provoking.

Like always. You never fail to deliver something touching and amazing.

I'm back.....wondering if you have ever considered publishing a book with your art and the stories that go with them? Perhaps it's too personal to do that, but I know I for one would feel blessed to have such beauty.

Beautiful painting, Tricia! I love the shading with the charcoal... it adds so much depth. And her eyes... so blue and so intense, but far away! Brava!

Wonderful!! My little boys think Cecily looks just like me and so do I! :D The story could be about me, too, as I am a stay-at-home mama with no car during the week and little money, I feel just like her. Tied to the home and very limited in that way, but loving it and embracing it, also. I definitely feel connected to this lovely piece!

Something to ponder over. It really captures my imagination - the expression in her face. I can imagine a whole character and story behind this painting. And thats a great type of artist who can captivate like that.

Thank you for the beautiful story! Sooo many changes going on and I can sort of relate. Change can be quite a challenge and you've given me a different perspective on my situation.
