Strength

before after
8 x 10
on wood.

Today I got to be creative. Olivia went with my MIL for the day and night. My friend Lucia came over and we painted...it is funny to see how different we are when we paint. She sits and is all quiet and mellow and I stand over the piece and I talk, or hum or sing...We listened to INXS and I tried not to sing along too much because I know I don't have a good singing voice. :) I took a picture of her and her finished piece. Tomorrow I will ask her if it is OK if I post it.

Another practice in faces. Lucia would tell you how much trouble I had with the nose and how I threw a hissy fit or two over it...I am already thinking of going back and working on it again in the morning.

Can you see what is in her heart? She thinks of her past, the poorness and the emptiness and how it has shaped her into the woman she is. Sometimes she wishes she could forget it all but she has grown and she appreciates the strength the pain has left her.
Sweet dreams to all.

xo,

morning update---things look so different in the morning, don't they? I had to get out the paints again to see if I could fix all the things that started bugging me the moment I got a look at her (I have named her Chloe). Are you all this hard on yourselves or is it just me?

Last night's scan was done on the Mac, this morning's on the Dell and what a difference. Today's is true to the color. I tried to widen the nose a little and I played with the lips some. It is so frustrating to have an image in my mind but not know how to translate it with the paints. Maybe I am too afraid of messing up to take the risks needed to get there. hmmm....I will keep practicing...

p.s.---i was asked about the background and it is an acrylic paint base with rubber stamping on top. for the stamping i used white fluid acrylic paint.

You are getting phenomenal at painting these faces! Truly! I think she's ready to love again...her heart is an open door...for those who dare to search for the light. :D

Tricia,
Oh--what a beautiful creation!!! Really, truly, gorgeous my dear!!

The difference in scanners is quite amazing--I have a Mac, and I constantly notice that things scan in with these yellow undertones. I always have to bring the scanned images into Photoshop to get rid of the yellow hues.

So glad you had a wonderful morning alone!

Gorgeous painting! I love the background stamping...the whole thing inspires me to go paint a self-portrait. We'll see if I have a chance anytime soon!

The rusts and oranges are so vibrant in this painting. The blue background really makes the colors pop. I love how you created the heart/doorway. There is so much depth to the piece.

Very nice - love your thought process so much the door, heart etc - so rich and deep in thought and emotion - just brilliant concepts.

Great piece. The imagery and the intent are so well married.

I love this! I've been attempting some faces, and have been so frustrated with the results! Usually I'm much more about process, but faces have really got me going in the other direction...

This is wonderful.

OKay. Here is the deal, it looks WONDERUL!!!! but, I am with you in the beginning and in the end.... I question myself alot too!!! WHY is this so difficult, why must I tweak it to death, why can't I translate what is in my brain onto the canvas.

I think the closest to the answer would be meeting up at a pub in Ireland to ponder.
